She wonders if her “moral compass” is nothing but a pretense. Selfishness dressed up as righteousness. All that matters is that she’s got no blood on her hands, even if it means letting other women bleed. Her conscience screams at her. It sounds like her own voice, ricocheting in the stairwell.
But if she’d said yes, it would scream at her anyway.
(Five times when Dr. Melfi almost wished she hadn’t said no. Almost.)
