Summary
It's the only kind of ritual Charles has ever wanted. If he’s going to survive a week in Westchester without torching the house and everyone in it, he needs Erik. If it's tanked a relationship or two, it's not a big deal - not many people, it turns out, are fine with him disappearing for weeks over Christmas, let alone refusing to stop sleeping with his best friend while he’s at it. Apparently, that doesn’t qualify as “emotionally available.”

Summary
It's been fifteen years since he last looked at Erik, the house, and all his mistakes. Thirty-year-old academic, he thinks, orphan, now, and starving, too. His mother is dead, and nothing has changed, except he forgets what he likes for breakfast. And Erik looks at him like - like he doesn't understand the language Charles is speaking. Like he has to strain a bit to make sense of the man in front of him.
With the pruning, a branch is stronger; you will learn to love the shears.

Summary
Since mother - since the house - since Cain - he's adapted. He can do anything. Now he wants something, and he suspects he might even deserve it. That, and the sight of a wedding ring on Lehnsherr’s left hand lands like a hit of something expensive in his blood stream.

Summary
He calls Erik my friend and the words resonate with a meaning only Charles can hear. There's a dangerous pleasure in it, that hidden meaning he longs to be able to share with Erik. Maybe one day, or one night, he'll find a way to tell him. But time is running out and he hasn't done it yet.

Summary
"I don't believe man can love—at least, not the way that he means. Inadequacies of reality always set in."
Sophia is dead and his neural circuitry is fried and what happened in Carcosa will never go away. That is his reality. The world spins on, a flat circle on a doomed trajectory, and the suffering goes on forever—but it's a clear evening and the stars are burning, burning, burning. Lafayette General is behind them, and Marty is a warm, solid presence supporting him, and this goes on forever, too, and Rust admits to himself that, whatever they've got, whatever their reality is... it's enough.

Summary
“I don’t know what I want to do.” Dennis admits. He looks over at Robby, staring at the side of his face. They’ve been closer than this before, but being in the car together feels strangely intimate. “What would you do?”
“If it was me… I’d at least go for that dinner. But I’m not you. You need to do what’s best for you, Dennis.”
There it is again, his name from Robby’s mouth. It makes his attention linger, still staring at Robby’s face. Dennis is once again overwhelmed with the urge to just bury his face in Robby’s neck and pretend the world doesn’t exist, but that’s not the grown up thing to do. He squeezes his eyes shut for a second, rubs his temples with his fingertips as Robby continues, “Carry your patients with you as much or as little as you like. Find your balance. But remember that you’re human.”
Dennis opens his eyes to the countryside fading away and the city bleeding in. He knows Robby is right. That’s what he needs: balance.
In his last year of med school, Dennis learns to let go of the guilt that plagues him.

Summary
When Whitaker accidentally sends a dick pic to Dr. Robby, he never thought it would end like this.
--
The ED team shuffles out, Whitaker and Dr. Robby taking up the rear. Dr. Robby stops him with a hand on Whitaker’s waist, there and gone. “Really,” he says low, directly into his ear, beard scratching his cartilage, “that was amazing. You didn’t waste any time starting compressions. That probably saved that baby’s life. You saved that baby’s life.”
The praise goes to his head, suffusing him with endorphins. “Thank you, Dad.” And he promptly wants to crawl out of his skin and slither down the drain with the after birth slop.
