Summary
What sets Burdock and Haymitch apart from those other families is how they continued their duties as providers outside of just the circle of their family. That was what had initially drawn them towards each other; the knowledge that both of them were providers, and that both of them shouldered that responsibility outside of just their own kin. When they first met, it had become quickly apparent that they had finally met their match in terms of such an instinct. And with everything else in their slowly-growing relationship being competitive, it was no surprise to anyone when the two of them began trying to outdo each other in terms of showing just how much they cared for the other.
And of course, when they finally started going steady, this competitive little game of theirs eventually found its way into their more intimate of exchanges.
