"Chuuya at eighteen has long hair which he often ties back into a ponytail. Dazai can see the nape of his neck, the tendons in his skin, and when Chuuya is sitting down, leaning over a book or lying face first on the touch, Dazai will have to resist the urge to touch him there, the follow the veins down to the bumps in his spine and to figure out, how, exactly, Chuuya is built: where the flesh of him ends and the human begins. It is more than that though, but Dazai refuses to look at it, so he cuts it off: snips through the emotion just as easily as he snips through Chuuya’s hair, standing over him while he’s asleep with a pair of kitchen scissors because he cannot bear to see that swath of pale skin anymore."

Summary
Thirty-five year old Dazai is devastating. His hair is long enough to gather in a loose knot at the base of his neck, sometimes long enough to plait, and it’s lighter than it used to be. Today, he wears it tied in a silk ribbon. He’s no taller than he was at twenty nor any heavier but he’s a brighter character, no longer weighed down by the blood on his hands or the weight of his thoughts and it shows in his body language and smile. Time has done you good, Chuuya thinks, sparing a quick glance at the hand holding the champagne flute to see that the bandages run only up to his mid-forearm. The last time they saw one-another was winter two years ago during a cross-over with a case from the ADA and Port Mafia, and Chuuya had been too much of a coward to tell him that he looks so much better now he’s happy before and after sex in the back of a rental Dazai had hired for a stake-out mission.

“Okay so if we’re both still single when we’re twenty two,” Dazai’s smile grew even wider. “Let’s marry each other.”
By the time Chuuya’s twenty two, he’d probably be in a relationship with someone else, and the possibilities of them even remembering each other were slim to none.
And so, Chuuya gave his answer.
“Fine, let’s do that.”
In short, fifteen year olds Dazai Osamu and Nakahara Chuuya made a stupid promise one day in their school library out of boredom, which leads to the next seven years of their life filled with fighting, burnt notebooks and late night conversations.

Summary
Chuuya knows to expect a difficult mission at the very least when he is summoned to Mori's office one day. He isn't surprised to find Kouyou and Dazai already there, looking as if they were having a pleasant chat over a cup of tea. But the matter at hand is the retrieval of a sensitive piece of data; a job requiring a certain degree of delicacy. It's only when Dazai allows himself to be spirited away by a sleazy business man that Chuuya understands what type of delicacy Mori meant.
Or: shortly after Chuuya joins Portmafia he finds himself in the middle of a metaphorical chessgame between Mori, Kouyou, and Dazai. And for all that Chuuya isn't a chess person, he demands to have a say in what games he's used as pawn in.
