Yet the longer they are together, the more Wei Wuxian lets little things slip—small habits, a familiar turn of phrase, the ghost of a smile—until, without even meaning to, he has revealed who he truly is.

Lan Wangji lowered his eyes, “You want to know?”
“Yes.” Wei Wuxian nodded.
“You told me yourself,” Lan Wangji stated.
“Me? Because of Jin Ling? Because I summoned Wen Ning? It can’t be that, can it?” Wei Wuxian wondered.
A ripple of amusement fired through the soft gold of Lan Wangji’s eyes. However, this noticeable disturbance soon faded, and they returned to that deep, clear, amber color.
He said sternly, “Just now.”
“What?”
“You told me yourself, just now.”
