Summary
Ten years have passed since the vampires Sylas and Delilah Briarwood massacred the de Rolo family, seizing control of Whitestone. One day, a group of adventurers valiantly defeat the Briarwoods, freeing Whitestone of tyranny, but at a terrible cost: one of their own, the half-elf Vax’ildan, is turned during battle. For the protection of his loved ones, Vax embarks on a lone journey to find a cure for vampirism.
Meanwhile, Percival de Rolo, the last living son of the de Rolo family, has just completed an apprenticeship under a legendary elven weaponsmith. Now, Jayce had never believed in love at first sight. That sort of thing only existed in fairytales, alongside fire-breathing dragons and wish-granting genies. But apparently, his ears had an entirely different opinion on that matter.
The sound of Viktor’s voice stirred something in his chest, and everything else in the world sort of faded away. And he was suddenly able to hear his own heartbeat, loud as thunder. He told his heart to quiet down, because all that thundering was distracting him from the sound that mattered. That voice. The one that was telling him about some recent breakthroughs in the field of bioengineering. The voice was music, made of smooth silk and rich honey, and oh god, that light hint of a Russian accent gave the music a gold-leaf gilding.
(Or: They meet for the first time, Jayce is instantly smitten, and then they do a bunch of cute, mundane things as colleagues, friends, roommates, spouses, and then lovers… yes, in that order.)

Ethari reached forward, gently hooking his forefinger around a lock of Runaan’s silvery-white hair, bringing it before his eyes to admire. “Pretty,” he muttered quietly, awed by how soft the strands felt, like fine silk, like clear water, like willow leaves. And when he finally looked up, meeting Runaan’s gaze, he saw within those turquoise eyes entire skies and seas. “So pretty, did you know that?”
Runaan froze in place as a certain realization slowly dawned upon him. “You’re... talking... about... me?” He stuttered in disbelief, turning slightly red.
“Who else?” Ethari asked in return. And because the drunken fool who had taken control of him hadn’t caused enough trouble already, he leaned forward and boldly stole a kiss.

Runaan curled into the covers some more, nestling comfortably in the cloud of cotton and knitted wool. And he looked so content in his sleep, not unlike a kitten napping in a patch of sunlight. So warm, so cozy, so sleepy and vulnerable...
So Ethari dove under the covers, buried his face in Runaan’s stomach, and blew a giant tummy raspberry.
“WHAT THE...” Runaan jolted awake with a shriek, instinctively throwing a punch at the attacker. Ethari dodged the strike, narrowingly avoiding a broken nose, and then burst into laughter.

Lan Fan inhaled sharply and reached for Ling’s raised left hand. Its ever-present itch had vanished, seeming real only for its absence. She gently turned it over and ran her flesh thumb along the back of it.
There, etched in pink so faint it was barely visible, was undeniably an Ouroboros tattoo.
Ling laughed, breathy and sparse. “Greed.”
Ling Yao made it. The cost was so high, but he was Emperor; he could change things. He could protect his people. It was, of course, a thing much easier said than done: some of his people—like those who attempted to kill him today—had rather aggressive complaints.
They got much more than they bargained for from a certain homunculus.
