At first, finding an apartment to accommodate all five of them had been a hassle. The ones close to Nova’s shop were too far away from Ruby’s family house. The new ones near Danna and Oscar’s old place were too far from downtown. Adrien had said he’d be okay being that far away from everything he’s ever known, but everyone else knew that was a load of bull.
It had taken two bottles of wine, copious amounts of pasta with Simon Westwood's famous sauce, and several prying questions before Adrien admitted that finding a place for all of them was more difficult then he’d originally anticipated. Nova, the last one left sober, had kicked him in the shin and swore up and down to his parents that they were making progress, that this was just a temporary situation. They’d be out of the Everheart's basements in no time.
It was futile. One look between Hugh Everheart and Simon Westwood sealed their fates.

She stands up, stretching the ache of loneliness out of her muscles, and reaches into her closet. She moves by texture, letting her hands decide what should go with what. It’s comfortable here in the dark, no one can see her and no one can see anyone else.Her hands find the slick surface of what she knows to be a holographic skirt. She grips it, debating. It’s a skirt for dancing, for heavy music and for dark rooms.
She pulls it out.

Summary
The guy holds a finger up at Yuuta and it’s gently menacing, the way he waves it in Yuuta’s face, the way his eyes say stay still without him having to say anything at all. When he seems certain Yuuta isn’t going to move, he redirects his attention to his phone and types furiously. Yuuta vaguely notices his thin gold rings, the fact that a few of the guy’s nails are painted black, scraped up like he uses his hands a lot and hadn’t bothered to repaint them.
Then the guy shoves his phone in Yuuta’s face.
Yuuta goes a little cross-eyed trying to see it. He puts his hand on the guy’s wrist to steady the phone and pull it away from his face so he can actually see whatever he is being shown. Yuuta realizes, once his fingers connect around the guy's slim wrist, overlapping a little, that touching him like this is pretty forward of Yuuta– but also this dude is shoving a phone in his face, so maybe it’s fine.
The phone is open to the notes app and says:
i’m mute. i literally can’t talk pretty much at all. stop running away from me, asshole. why are you so freaky fast?
“Uh.” Yuuta says.
