Every time Nightmare falls asleep, Passive comes to life to a world completely unknown, with people he should know but he doesn't remember.
After all, five hundred years is a long time to be gone.
Passive is called "Night" and he's not quite a child, neither an adult. But he's for sure traumatized.
Half Age regression as a coping mechanism and half de-aging as the bases for the series, it's not one thing or another, it's both in one.
With that information you should be able to read any fic related to the series as a stand alone fic. My only warning it's that I'm not good at drawing.
