Summary
Shay wasn't sure what to expect after being fished out of the ocean by Colonel George Monro, but being introduced to Templar Grand Master Haytham Kenway certainly wasn't it. And, of course, Monro is a Templar himself.
And yet, they're being kinder to him than the Assassins ever have been. They seem to believe he's capable of something other than ruining everything he touches.
That belief might just change everything.

Summary
Haytham Kenway left the colonies where he could have (would have) died for Shay Cormac. He entered the much darker world of vampires for Shay, albeit much less permanently than Shay had to. So perhaps the next step of that would seem obvious.
...And perhaps it is obvious, to anyone but Haytham, who is chronically incapable of not agonizing over his own decisions when given the chance.

Summary
Shay managed to talk Haytham into leaving the colonies with him, rather than staying there to die. And, for a time, things were good. Great, even.
That was before Shay became a vampire. Before everything changed, and though it was better than dying outright, Shay can't imagine why Haytham would want to remain with a monster. But he does. Shay's grateful.
Even if he regrets, so much, ever having dragged Haytham into this.

Summary
As far as the rest of the world knows, Desmond Miles died on December 21st, 2012. It's as much of a surprise to him when he wakes up after the end as it would be to anyone else—other people who are supposed to have died way before him, and clearly didn't, excluded.
If someone told Desmond before he got himself kidnapped that vampires were real, he would've laughed and asked how much they had to drink, because vampires fell into the same mental category for him as the Templars. If someone told him the same thing after that, he still wouldn't have believed them, even now that he knew firsthand that the Templars were all too real.
It's kind of hard to discount the truth when it's staring him in the face and also looks way too much like his ancestors. They all should be dead.
But here's the thing: Desmond should be too.

Series title is a song lyric from the RWBY song All Things Must Die because, well, yes. They do. Doesn't mean they have to stay dead, though, expect an above-average level of character death fix-its even by my standards and generally working to make things better against overwhelming odds. Hornet turns up a lot because I love her and because I thought it would be fun to give her quite a lot of game with the ladies.

Canon compliant except where they aren't. Probably most of these are going to have titles from song lyrics. Everyone is some variety of queer because I said so and because I, too, am incredibly gay.

Robert didn’t like the suit. He didn’t like the way it was all limp when it hung from the maintenance rack – he didn’t like when steam would shoot out of it, he didn’t like the glare off the visor in the rack’s lighting – he didn’t like when the metal creaked.
He didn’t like when his dad climbed into its open chest – like a beast with open jaws. Starving. Lying in wait. Ready to consume as soon as they let their guard down. He didn’t like it when it closed, his dad strapped into the seat, the mechanisms hissing and whirring as they swallowed him whole.

He had dodged that question so well. Like, exceptionally well – he was just Robert, the dispatcher for the Z-Team, because this was his fresh start. He wanted this to be his fresh start – he wanted it so badly. And the Z-Team let him have it, too. That was the real killer – they let him have it. They knew more than anybody – more than anyone on the planet, how hard it was to be granted your second chance. How hard it was to be more than what people tell you you’re destined to be – that you have to be.

Summary
He wonders if that reporter was right.
He wonders if his dad – his grandfather – if they would be ashamed of him surviving. If they would be ashamed that the legacy didn’t carry on – that he didn’t die in the suit just like they had, that he only killed the suit.
He felt so wrapped up in the suit, it felt like he had died, anyway – he wonders if that would’ve been enough for them. It wasn’t like killing their legacy didn’t kill his, too – it wasn’t like that suit was all he had, or anything. It wasn’t as if he needed that suit as much as the public needed it, too.
It wasn’t.
