“....Do you remember anything before our...our trip?” asked Wolfwood.
Vash shook his head.
Wolfwood felt himself getting desperate as he asked his next question; “Do you know who you are?”
Those damn blue eyes gave him the most pitiful look Wolfwood had ever seen, and Vash ever so slowly shook his head ‘No’. The waves came crashing down over Wolfwood’s head as the whole planet stopped in its tracks.
He didn’t remember.
He had failed.
He hadn’t saved Vash, that needle-noggin was long gone still stuck in July.
All he had done was save the shell of a man he had wanted to save with all his being.
Why was it?
Why was it that all he could do was fuck everything up?
tldr: two guys go on a road trip trying to survive a post Lost July world, Wolfwood is trying his best and Vash is figuring what it means to be human

However, the town sits atop a large freshwater aquifer, one of only a few in No Man's Land, and a group of water barons in a nearby city have set their sights on it. With hired guns harassing the town and legal options running out, the threat violence will be brought down on this town like a boot on a throat grows every day.
Nicholas D. Wolfwood knows Vash will run headlong into the brewing fight, and he also knows he'll follow Vash into it. He knows Vash will trust Nicholas to guard his back. Like Nicholas is someone worth trusting. He'll follow Vash anywhere, even to his end.

It goes without saying that an orphan like Nicholas has never seen a Plant. From illustrations and descriptions, he imagines it as some sort of bulb or glowing ball suspended in a tank. They’re so rare and protected these days, kept away from the grubby little hands of anyone who doesn’t live in a major city.
But somehow, Nicholas knows what he’s looking at now isn’t a Plant. Even from the other end of the room he can see arms and legs and something human in there, swathed in something else.
Nicholas, all at once, is overcome with a sensation he’s only ever felt once before. Looking at the thing in the tank, his voice dies in his throat, overcome with a need to be quiet, to not disturb it. Not quite fear, but something so reverent every animal instinct in his brain begs him to obey. That not-Plant is something else. Not human. Not worm. Not alive and not dead. Something other.

Summary
Nick Wolfwood is the new director of Conrad-Chapel Funeral Home in May City, located across the street from Saverem Greenhouse & Landscaping. Over time, the owner, Vash, gets to know Nick and introduces him to the rest of the neighborhood, including local busybodies and married feminist bookshop owners Meryl and Milly. Vash and Nick are inexorably drawn to each other until they have to start admitting their feelings.
But Vash's brother, co-owner of the garden center, hasn't left his past as far behind as the twins had hoped when they started their lives over in May.

Wolfwood reaches into his tunic with his free hand, bangles on his wrists and arms jangling as he does so, and pulls out a small, tattered scroll.
It unrolls to reveal an awful drawing of Vash, but one that’s still undoubtedly recognisable as him. Although the fangs and spiky eyebrows are a bit much, in Vash's opinion. “This is you, is it not? Vash the Stampede—wow, that’s catchy—God of Life. Seems like your brother has a pretty hefty bounty on your head. Anyone who can stop you escaping the Underworld gets a reward.”
“Ah, well, um,” Vash says.
The Underworld is all Vash has ever known. Along with his brother, the God of Death, they rule over the souls of the dead. But after he discovers a troubling secret his brother has kept from him his entire life, Vash is catapulted into the depths of the Underworld in a search for freedom. As Vash and Wolfwood travel together, it's too easy to forget who they are and what they’re facing. But all it takes is one gunfight or encounter with someone after Vash’s bounty for reality to come crashing down on them. Vash can never truly forget who he is, and Wolfwood can’t allow himself to forget the things he’s done (and what he’s there to do).
It's dangerous enough for them to be friends, they can't even allow themselves to think about anything more than that.

It has been over 200 years since Nicholas D. Wolfwood died. The world has become a better place, people have progressed and the threat of humanity being annihilated by the hands of an extremist Plant cult is long gone like a certain someone always wanted it to be, that’s the kind of world Nicholas was born into again.
With all of the memories of his past life in his system, he can’t help but notice that his weird neighbor from 311 in the new building he moved into, looks awfully similar to a clown he used to know once. His smile seemed all too familiar and Nicholas' new problem is reminding himself that his neighbor is not who he thinks he is. It seems like an easy task, since his neighbor appears to be weirder than he remembers the other guy to be, however Nicholas could have never predicted the amount of effort that simple task would need. His neighbor was not faring any better anyways, if anything he might be doing worse.

Summary
So he keeps Angelina mostly parked out on the street and tries not to notice the way that Vash looks from him to the bike sometimes. Like he has something to say.
That happens a lot, with Vash; his mouth will open and Wolfwood can see the gears turning in his stupid spiky head but nothing comes out. Vash seals his lips closed with a smile and a nod.
Wolfwood’s not sure how he ended up here, not sure how he ended up being a person who pays attention to the way Vash’s lips move. It’s not the life he had before meeting Vash, nor the one he expected.

The blonde leaned in, angling his head towards Wolfwood’s neck. He was going to bite him, and Wolfwood would die here, his weapon in his hands, useless. He wanted to screw his eyes shut against the glare of those eyes, but he couldn’t. He thought about praying, but then didn’t see the point.
“I’m really sorry about this.” The voice in his ear was apologetic.
Wolfwood goes out on a Hunter job which takes an unexpected turn and he ends up tangled with the vampire who was supposed to be his target - in more ways than one.
