Camilla huffs, nose still pressed against Gideon’s neck. It feels like she’s losing the game they’re playing. “I’d be better if you had touched me a week ago.”

“Yeah,” she manages through an exhale. She puts her hands on Rachel’s hip and applies just a little pressure so she turns to the right. Max takes a step back, considering the framing and, just barely audible, “Yeah, you’re- that’s perfect.”

“Shut up,” Shadowheart takes Mātia’s hand, lays it across her aching chest. If Shar finds fault in her, well. Death is not becoming of a future Dark Justiciar. “Stupid paladin.”

When Raya speaks to her, it’s not like speaking usually is. An idea is planted in her, grows and flowers and then she knows, suddenly, all consumingly, that she’s going to die. Like a parasite has taken hold of her and all she can do is bend at the knee for it.
Once again Ava finds herself thinking about God’s broken telephone. She spent years hoping to die and maybe the message just got lost on its way until finally She heard, and strapped a bomb into her friend. Tucked an inferno into the hole in Ava’s back, an unlit match in her hands. All she has to do now to have that wish granted is to set Miguel off. Easy, and yet so hard.

Summary
When Shaw arrives, shirt tucked loosely into her pants, she’s carrying her drumsticks in a little red bag attached to her belt. When she sits behind the drum kit, she has to move the stool down a little so that her feet reach the pedal of the kick drum. Lupe snickers.
There’s a pause before she begins. Carson straightens her back, exhales, and then she launches into motion. She’s electric behind the kit, playing one of their songs with a practiced ease. Lupe is pulled back into silence by it. Carson had been muted when she entered the room, quiet and unsure of herself. Despite her hesitation, however, it’s clear she comes alive with the kick of a bass drum.
Just like that the blanket is lifted- their music is being played live again, for the first time in over a year. Greta pretends she doesn’t cry, wipes her face before the song is over. No one notices, too drawn in by Carson’s energy.
It’s catharsis, plain and simple.

It’s a lie- A boldfaced one in the sticky July heat. Adora picks at a hole in the sleeve of her shirt and toys with the loose threads. It’s uncomfortable, the air is so thick that it's hard to breathe, and the mugginess rests square on Adora’s shoulders as she flushes pink. She looks away from Catra before she says something she’ll regret.
