Summary
What if that night in the forest, Varang takes a little more interest in Spider? Instead of seeing him as an intriguing but useless human, she believes him to be a representation of all that Eywa holds dear. After all, why did the Great Mother choose to save him, but not any of her own people? It is clear Eywa has favourites, and Varang can't let that stand.
A canon divergent AU where Varang takes Spider back to the Ash Camp, Eywa's prize now in her possession. And she has plans for him. Will anybody be able to rescue Spider in time?

Eywa's greatest mistake was born when the great Toruk Makto asked the Ash Clan for help to fight the Sky People. Their leader agreed, on one condition.
"I want to keep a possession of the Sky People."
A baby was found, an error of Eywa, a pink-skinned one who could breathe the air of Pandora.
An abomination of the Great Mother. So an abomination like that should be with those who do not follow Eywa.
Varang kept that human baby who could breathe Pandora's air.
And nothing more was ever heard of Eywa's greatest mistake... until now.
...
The RDA has returned after 18 years of silence. Lo'ak has to bear the weight of his brother's death and protect everything he deems right. Until the moment he meets someone.
Someone impossible. Someone who shouldn't even exist.

The door suddenly opened again, Norm walking through with a small, whimpering human child. He was holding it awkwardly, one hand on the baby’s back, and the other arm just under its bottom. It looked far from comfortable, wriggling around in his arms as if he wanted to be let down.
“You can’t get down yet,” Norm was grumbling, tilting his head away from errant tiny hands. “What have I told you about the equipment in the lab? You can’t crawl around here, so you have to stay with me.”
With all the astute thinking of a baby, the child’s head turned, its blonde hair catching in the light as it stared at Norm. “No,” it said boldly, before stubbornly beginning to move his arms and legs again.

The pattern repeats every morning. Lo'ak leaves the marui to be with Payakan and a piece of Neytiri's heart follows him. And when Tuk hops off on the marui path to go find her friends it happens again. Kiri too takes a part of it as she goes out to swim on the reef. Jake snags what remains as he steps out.
And all that Neytiri can do is watch them go, and train her bow arm. And to her fury Spider is ever present in the corner of her eye - learning the Metkayina way from Ronal; a woman that Neytiri dislikes.
She hates the feeling of seeing him so happy with her. Hates his freedom. The back of her ears begin to burn. Her fingers start to twitch. Her chest starts to hurt more than her bow arm. And she feels such fury. It's worse than before and more intense by the day - unwavering and inexplicable.
Until one morning; Spider skips breakfast rushing to Ronal's side... and he takes her heart with him

“Christ kid, can’t you see that they’ve brainwashed you?!” Jake hadn't meant to sound forceful, but he couldn’t help it.
This is all wrong, he wants to yell.
“What? Because I finally found probably the only people that actually love me, people that See me, care for my well-being and who I am; I must be brainwashed. Is that it?” Spider shot back.
The Sully patriarch and former Olo’eyktan could only look at him in shock. He was no longer the child he knew back then. The skin that was once tan with blue stripes is now dulled to an ashy gray tone with pitch black markings. Those familiar brown eyes which used to shine at Jake in adoration now stare with a cold, unfeeling gaze. Jake only wants to help Spider, the kid’s gotta know that. He has to know that he’s just trying to fix him.
“But of course, you never cared before so why would you care now, am I right?”
OR
Where a lone human boy is raised by the wrong people; the Ash Na’vi. However, Spider ended up learning what love and family meant for the first time in his life. In the end, this turns into quite a unique take on Avatar: The Way of Water. The Sullys had a chance but failed, and now they may come to regret it.
