Lestat, for his part, doesn’t seem to share Louis’ reaction. Rather, he nods in affirmation, as if they make a habit of going on dates. “But she’s ours now. We intended to keep her for the duration of our stay here and bring her home with us to France when we leave. Right, Louis?”

There is a sudden shift in Armand’s consciousness. A pink-hued dizzying rush of all the conflicting affection she has ever felt for Lestat over the course of so many painful decades. Affection fused with the yearning of the romantic, the kinship of the familial, the understanding of the platonic, and the all-consuming devotion and protectiveness of the maternal. “All the lifetimes we have lived… All the lifetimes we will live, I have told you before—I have always tried to change as best I can! But what if it is more than that? How many times have we been reborn? How many times have you and I found ourselves alone, without a mother nor maker to guide us?”

“Is that what you think? That I have no use for all of this?” Armand strokes him then, lingering as though he, Armand, were gaining pleasure from the act itself.
“Do you, really?” Lestat’s voice sounds both guttural and wounded to his own ears, the voice of a captured animal.
Armand tilts his head, expression curious and vulnerable, and for an instant Lestat can see them in a world where they had been born of the same time, been boys in the village together, drinking wine and frotting behind the church. Sun-kissed and alive, saddled only with the burdens of a fraction of a mortal lifetime.

"Perhaps you have been cruising through life on your looks alone because, from the sounds of it, nobody ever taught you any different… not your friends, not your teachers."
Lestat's breath catches, goosebumps visibly rising on her skin.
"Not your mother."

“Calm your breathing,” Obi-Wan instructs as he gets off Anakin and the bed. “In and out, slowly. Find your centre.”
He doesn’t expect Anakin to be able to, but Obi-Wan likes setting a high bar. Anakin never tries when the objective is easy, preferring to be pushed and challenged. They’re the same in that sense. The same drive to prove themselves.
A little failure is good for the soul.
