Franco had been born to Salvatore Barbi and his mother, whose name he would never be told in his lifetime. Salvatore had been about several years older than his wife, and they had tried day and night for a child. And by some stroke of luck, Salvatore’s wife had managed to make it to the 9-month mark and give birth to their child after numerous failed attempts. It was something the Doctors had claimed would be impossible, but here they were, listening to the labored screaming and crying of the baby.
