White, puckered cracks slice along her sallow, pale skin, and Joel urges to reach out a hand and trace them with trembling fingers. He wonders distantly why his baby girl came back to haunt him with scars she never received.
“Hi, Joel,” Ellie whispers. “I’m real. I swear to god I’m real.””
