Summary
For a brief moment, Lin Ling considers telling Nice about the office worker he saved today. But with the amount of weird people they meet on a daily basis, it’d be a drop of water on a hot stone. Barely worth mentioning. At most, it’d get a vague hum out of Nice, who seems far more interested in figuring out the cotton to polyester ratio of Lin Ling’s shirt with how insistently his fingers are toying with the hem of it.
Lin Ling shudders when a thumb accidentally grazes his hipbone. Nice pauses, then pulls his hand back in favour of resting his chin on Lin Ling’s shoulder, tightly securing his arms around Lin Ling’s waist once more.
Hot breath fans against his neck. “Next time,” Nice murmurs, “let me know me when you’re late.”
or: Already centre of one of the strongest hero's attention, Lin Ling manages to catch the interest of another.

The concept of fated mates wasn’t lost on Lin Ling. He knew they were something that happened, that sometimes couples are so perfect for each other that the draw they feel towards one another was so strong they couldn’t be with anyone else. Lin Ling didn’t ever think the concept would apply to him. After all, he had never met anyone who had a fated mate, to Lin Ling they might as well be myths.
OR Lin Ling can't help but enjoy loving Yang Cheng, despite it all.

Summary
He breaks free of Nice’s ghost, his long shadow.
But sometimes, Lin Ling will sees things in the corner of his eye.
There is a cold spot around his shoulders no matter how hot the day is, or how he burrows himself in his blankets at night. He wakes in the morning to the smell of spring flowers still touched by the frost of winter; an alpha’s smell but Lin Ling is an omega and not even masquerading as Nice changed that. The phantom pain of a bite on the back of his neck, of the imprint of teeth in skin but every time Lin Ling goes to touch the skin there, his collar remains, the skin there unblemished and unmarked.
Nice knows he and Lin Ling are meant to be. It doesn't matter that Yang Cheng loves Lin Ling too, or that Nice is already dead.
That changes nothing.
