Her words were nothing more than breath caught in the grass. A whisper layered over the hush of wind and the distant hum of night.
Wednesday didn’t look up.
Her eyes never strayed from Enid’s face—the pale arch of her brow, the soft tremble of her mouth, the quiver of lashes catching starlight. A tear slipped down Wednesday’s cheek, tracing the familiar curve of her jaw before vanishing into the stiff collar of her shirt.
“Indeed,” she replied, just as quietly. “Indeed, she is.”
