“Well, you don’t have to taste it,” says Sylvain, raising his eyebrows. Felix likes the burr in his voice. “Not the worst of it, anyway. I’ll take it. I’ll take – I mean, I’ll do it for you, if you’d like.”
Felix doesn’t say anything, just stares. A distant part of his brain races, sirening, trying to understand what Sylvain means. He hopes he’s projecting a sense of deep suspicion and disdain.
Sylvain smiles fondly.
“You can keep pretending you’ve done this before,” Sylvain says. “I’ll pretend, uh, that I can’t tell you’re pretending.”
