Summary
A universe in which mated pairs always climax together, so if your mate is jerking off you get to experience a spontaneous orgasm—even across vast distances.
-0-
At least when he fantasizes about his unknown mate, when he takes himself in hand and gets off on purpose, he can pretend they’re having sex. That’s part of the evolutionary purpose, people say—when you have sex with your mate, you guarantee a simultaneous orgasm, thus increasing the bond, the intimacy, the connection. So he can pretend that his mate is there in the room with him, warm, with a firm touch, a soft mouth.
He can’t tell if the details he imagines sometimes are real or just something he’s invented in his head. Sometimes he wakes up just before his mate brings them both off and he swears he can see green eyes. Sometimes he’s indulging in his own pleasure when he sees glimpses of a five o’clock shadow behind his eyelids. He can picture details but not the whole image of a face: a strong, sculpted jaw, dark hair mussed over a forehead, part of a smile.
