What hurts more than anything, in the aftermath, is the look on Vi's face.
More than the explosion, more than the cool bits of metal and dirt as they blast into her scorched eyes. More than the feeling of her father's husk, slipping from her hands, the man himself long erased.
It's not landing on the ground in a heap, a millisecond of rest before blasting into the ducts.
What hurt's is that look in Vi's eyes. The one that predicted her sacrifice moments before it came. She'd always been a loose cannon, a splash of paint against her sister's wall of strength.
"Always with you sis."
She really hadn't meant to lie.
Or, Jinx cuts ties, believing it's what's best. But if there's one thing Vi's good at, it's seeing through her sister's bullshit.

The voices in her head hadn't shut up since the Quantum Realm and despite everyone’s support, Cassie was tired. Racing along the streets on the back of an ant she could almost feel normal again. She was free in her suit, free when her face was covered in a mask. Only then could she stop being Cassie Lang - the little girl who's dad had to come save her again and again. Cassie Lang, the teenager who couldn't take a single deep breath, Cassie Lang the high school dropout (because who the hell could finish their senior year after literally fighting a genocide?)
No, it was much better to be invisible. To be small in a way that made her feel big. To be hidden from the world's grasp. From Kang's grasp. But goddamnit her side hurt and she wasn't exactly adept at medical treatment.

Summary
Laudna is a children's librarian who loves doing story time, but unfortunately the kids find her more scary-scary than fun-scary. So it's very rare for her to be able to do that.
Imogen runs an outdoor school where schools in Jrusar send grades of children to learn about nature and get some learning done outside of a traditional classroom. Finding someone to lead a story time with the kids has been a bit difficult, so Imogen reaches out to the local public library.
This is a modern AU, so they don't have magic per se. This is generally going to be from Laudna's perspective, with a lil Imogen sprinkled in for flavour. I'll add more tags and characters as they become relevant.
