The problem, of course, was the lungs. Half-ghosts had them. Other ghosts did not. Ghosts, ordinary ghosts, did not need oxygen, but ectoplasm, and they absorbed it through their skin. Half-ghosts, meanwhile, repurposed the bronchi and alveoli of their lungs as ectoplasm filters. Ordinary ghosts didn’t even use lungs to speak, they used a different mechanism to make the air around them vibrate.
