Enter Killua Zaoldyk, his prisoner and rather unwilling "travel-buddy."

Summary
The idea behind the whole system is pretty simple. You pay a dollar, answer some questions, and out pops a couple of names of people you’d be compatible with. Compatible as in, you know, dating-wise.
Gon, though. Gon never really knew why he signed up. And neither did anyone else.
It wasn’t like Gon was ever without friends. Just the opposite, in fact. Everyone liked Gon. He talked to people, made them open up in ways no one else could.
So, it was as big a surprise to Gon as to anyone when the high school's matching system paired him with the one person he had never uttered a single word to during his past three years at Hunter High.
(a fic in which social butterfly Gon Freecss is accidentally paired up with social outcast Killua Zoldyck through a matching personality test; as Gon is thrown head-first into Killua's world, he slowly becomes more and more drawn to Killua in ways he could have never expected)

Summary
"The rule about rules is the the first one Killua learns and it’s almost calming in its certainty and truth that everything in his life is simply a matter of learning the rules and obeying them. It’s clean in the way breaking a bone can be clean it hurts but it makes sense it leaves no jagged edges of misunderstanding just a simple syllogistic pattern that there are rules and they must be followed full stop."
Killua's picked up various rules throughout his childhood. Gon manages to be the exception to every one.

"All at once, Killua simply detaches. He steps outside his body. He stops feeling, stops seeing, stops thinking. He merely breathes, as slowly and evenly as he can, and holds perfectly still and prepares himself to endure. He isn’t Killua anymore, not really. And that’ll make it easier. Whatever’s coming. When he’s no longer Killua, the pain doesn’t hurt quite so much. The terror isn’t quite so acute. He can observe this person, this body, enduring whatever cruelty it’s subjected to from a safe distance. He’ll hurt for a while, and Killua will be outside of it. And then when it’s over, he’ll come back."
