Borg drones struggle with isolation. It was not particularly difficult to convince her that I would care for her in the Collective’s stead. I replaced their reassuring whispers with sweet words of my own, traded Borg sterility for warm touches. She adapted. She seemed to enjoy it.

Canon-divergent season 2. No wraith, no magic hat.
The curse is broken and their entire world shatters. When Regina is put on trial for crimes against the people, she's dealt a punishment no one could have ever imagined. Now saddled with the burden of responsibility, the Saviour seems intent on making it her personal mission to ensure Regina's safety. And it wouldn't be such a big deal, only there are feelings that choke Regina whenever Emma shows that she cares (which is often, and never ending, and a problem).
But Regina learns that wants and needs are often one in the same, that redemption can come in form of healing, and gifts from a curse can only be unwrapped by the people who broke it.

Emma glances away, suddenly aware that she’s staring. She swallows, and says in as composed a manner as she can manage, “What would you suggest, then?”
Regina tilts her head to the side, licks her lips with a little shrug and says, “Oh, you know. Join a gym. Run it out.” Emma must pull a face at that one, because she laughs and continues, “Pin his face to a dummy and throw some darts. Go out into the woods and throw some fireballs. Or, better yet.” She pauses, and waits until Emma’s eyes flicker back to her own before she continues. “Fuck somebody.”

Henry thinks she should have more friends. It’s absurd, honestly. She’s a grown woman, and she can take care of herself. But Henry had looked at her with such caring eyes, telling her that he couldn’t bear the thought of her being all alone when he went off to university, so Regina had no choice but to fold. He only has two short years before he graduates, and Regina has to admit that he has a point. He’s been her world for so long, so she does sometimes worry about how empty her life will be when he’s gone.
Regina tries to make friends. It goes better and worse than she plans.
