Amongst the shadows of the untamed lands, deep beyond the grid, a lonely badger hides from nearly everything, and everyone. Even those who were once her most trusted friends.
But one individual stands out as her only trustee left in this world - a coyote who claims to have once been human.
But he, too, has to remain in hiding most of the time due to a particular trait he possesses that, to those both above and below the new world's rising laws, paints a huge red target on his head: his entire body is made up of the Metal Virus, itself.

Amy, now in her forties, sometimes couldn’t help but feel insecure. While the passing years marked her body and her face, Shadow remained unchanged. That difference made her wonder if he could still see her with the same eyes with which he desired her at the beginning.
But Shadow never allowed those doubts to linger. With a blend of tenderness and mischief, he took her in his arms and showed her, that to him she was still the most beautiful woman in the world. Summary
Shadow's been in love with Rose for the longest time but he doesn't know how to just tell her. Every time he has a moment alone to do just that something interrupts the two hedgehogs from moving forward.
While on the other side, Rose has feelings for Shadow. One moment he seems to be into her and things are going great but when something gets in the middle he shuts down. She doesn't know what to do to make things move forward between them.
Feelings of doubt swirl around them both about how the other feels. Will they ever just push through and finally tell each other that they care for each other as more than friends?
