[this is probably VERY ooc, this is me projecting and this concept has been in my head for so long i js needed to write it; title from DNA guarantee by Kodi Rhianne. also sorry for any spelling mistakes im kinda dumb]
it’s always been like this, at least from what damian could remember.
father had always been estranged. not physically, of course, his mother dropped him off at their door when he was one. damian still spoke to her over the phone, but she kept her distance. still, somehow, he always felt closer to her. He knew father tried, he was pretty sure he loved him. But somehow he felt as though that cold gaze never softened for him, unlike when he spoke of any of his adoptive siblings. I mean, damian couldn’t really blame him. in childhood damian was…difficult to put it nicely. tantrums were frequent, over minor things mostly, but most of the time whatever he would whine about wasn’t really what was distressing him. He just wished father would comfort him, even discipline him. but, alas, here he is in an empty house.

basically an AU where talia dropped off damian with bruce early, he never became robin, and bruce is emotionally constipated!!
