What if Carmy took time away to heal?
What if he came back almost a year later as a better man?
What if there were secrets about himself even he was unaware of?
How was he going to be able to earn Sydney's forgiveness? It was certainly one thing to leave her twisting in the wind but to leave her with their restaurant and with his extended family without him around? She had every right to hate him.
It would be so much easier if she hated him.
Fortunately for the both of them, hatred was never something that ever fully existed between the two of them, even at their worst.

Carmy was never good at expressing his emotions but over the years, he'd learned how to handle his feelings however they would come and go. So when Syd came into his life, she threw that delicate balance all out of shape, suddenly he had more feelings than he knew what to do with.
It didn't help that other people tried to claim they knew what was best for him. Syd was never like that, she liked him as himself but was never afraid to call him out on his crap.Sydney was never good at the whole emotions things either. She knew how to keep her feelings in check and she got used to not having anyone she could really talk to, she was used to being alone. Then she and Camry met and suddenly, she didn't really enjoy being alone all that much anymore.
She never felt seen and she had been okay with that for the most part. Carmy saw her though, he gave her the respect she'd always dreamed of having as a chef from Day One.Was it weird that for two people so close, it took an argument to realize they wanted to be closer?
