Eddie runs his hands up over the V of Richie’s hips, over the knife scar his dad gave him when he was drunk and Richie was thirteen, over his broad pecs and the wet chest hair, over his shoulders that drive Eddie to the edge of insanity, and they rest on his neck.
Eddie pushes up and latches on to Richie’s bottom lip, kissing and gnawing at it like a last meal.
“Remember me?” the kiss asks, a plea. “Remember when I was like this? Please say you do. Please want me again, the way you did then.”Series

He pushed his nose into the soft skin under his jaw, soft prickles itching his face and smoke mixed with a distant smell of plain white soap filling his nose. Richie placed his joint-free hand on the middle of Eddie’s back, just resting there as a heavy solid pressure, and started his story from the top. They weren’t, like, together, but this had always been a bit of a thing for them, the closeness.

Summary
Some things he settles into easily. Life with Richie, for one. A morning routine adjusted to accommodate a warm, large body nuzzling into him from behind. Stubble against his cheek and the crisp scent of cologne. Dishes in the sink that aren’t immediately cleaned. Shirts in Eddie’s drawers that are just a little too big in the shoulders. He adjusts to that. He adjusts to waking up in Chicago, in the apartment he shares with Richie with the beautiful west-facing windows and the sunset he gets to watch every night. He adjusts to working from home and he adjusts to the doorbell ringing and bringing warm friends into his home and he adjusts to being kissed every night before he goes to bed and feeling like it means something. These things he falls into quite easily. Like his new body knows that these are the things he didn’t have but longed for, for many years.
Spring comes. Eddie Kaspbrak continues to live.

“What is it?” Richie asks. There’s a smallness in his voice that he has never known before.
A SACRIFICE, Maturin informs him, voice a low rumble.
“Take me, man,” Richie says, voice breaking. His hands tremble as he smacks his chest. “You can fucking have me if it brings him back.”
NO, Maturin says. THAT IS NOT THE KIND OF SACRIFICE I REQUIRE FROM YOU.

Eddie’s heart stops, as if replaying the moment. When it starts again, it sounds like it’s playing a tattoo against his ribs.
The Law of Conservation of Energy:, his brain supplies helpfully, energy can neither be created or destroyed; it can only be transformed or transferred from one form to another.
The implication hangs heavy in the air, like smog. It’s just as suffocating.
(You know the truth, he’s telling the truth, you’re not human anymore Eddie)Or: Eddie doesn't die, exactly, but he's not the same as he was before, and tries to understand what that means.
