“Who knows? Maybe that’s Mr. Blue Lion walking toward me right now.”
Wasn’t that the funny thing? No one knew. Any one of these people Lance fell for impulsively and took to bed could be the one. The one that he grew attached to and chose to never let go of, the one that got to hold his heart as closely as his body… the one that stole the spotlight in his life and shoved Keith so far off stage that he blended right into the shadows.
Lance wanted it so very badly, had tried to force it so many times, but it was bound to happen sooner or later. Someone was going to fill that soulmate-sized hole in Lance’s chest and here Keith was showing off different shapes.

Keith's in love with Lance, and it's for that very reason that he finds himself in this situation. Helping Lance through a sexuality crisis, setting him up with other people, and eventually... volunteering to become friends with benefits.

“God, are you trying to ruin me for all other men?” Keith’s legs are still shaking, spread out deliciously in front of Lance.
There's a long pause where Lance debates what to say next, ponders where the line is that he's threatening to cross. He has no idea how their dynamic has shifted after this. He has his hopes, but he's not foolish enough to expect anything at this point.
He bites his tongue for all of ten seconds before the truth spills out.
“Is it selfish of me to answer yes?”

Lance is recovering from a divorce, learning to trust love again and put himself out there. Keith has never known love, real honest true love. He knows desire, he knows lust, he knows infatuation. Lance might just be able to teach him a thing or two about it, when circumstances bring them together unexpectedly.

“Shit,” Lance breathes. “This is so freaky.”
Keith can hear the laugh in his voice, trying to wrap his mind around how he could possibly find humor in a moment like this. His muscles are taut with anxiety, and Lance still manages to crack a joke.
“Right?” the other Lance agrees. “Two of us, ha.”
“Enough,” Keith finally cuts in. “There’s about to be only one of you if you don’t start talking soon.”
“Jeez, you’re intense,” the other Lance says to his Keith, eyes crinkling softly at the corners. “Would hate to get on your bad side.”
or: When Lance and Keith meet their counterparts from a different universe, it’s fun, mostly.

So. Um.” Lance swallows and looks up at the Blade of Marmora soldier through his lashes. “What say you?”
They look down at their hands for a moment, fingers twisting together in deep thought. Then they’re pulling their gloves off, revealing pale, half-bruised knuckles of the human variation, and their mask is dissolving, giving way to big blue-purple eyes and an achingly familiar jet-black cowlick. “Who,” says Keith Kogane, in that low-pitched rumble that makes Lance’s stomach roil in the good way—holy fuck—“is this guy you’re trying to get over?”
