Summary
Surviving in the wilderness really isn't all it's cracked up to be.
After being gone for a year, John Dory returns to the Troll Tree to find it completely empty. Save for one troll: His baby brother, Branch. Thinking the trolls and the rest of his family dead, he sets off once again to the Neverglade Trail, this time, with his baby brother in tow. Fueled by fear, guilt, and voices from the past he just can't seem to escape, he wonders if he made the right decision.
But he promised his brother he would never leave him again. So he wouldn't.
Besides, he was never known for his great decisions anyways.
(Based on the song "Great Decisions" by Judah & the Lion)

Or... I needed to write more John Dory and Branch ANGST, so here's my rewrite of canon, where John Dory goes back and raises Branch out in the wilderness, and other subsequent shenanigans. Let's see how this goes, shall we?

Poppy enjoyed nicknames.
They were one of those (many) odd little things that just gave her an inexplainable amount of joy and excitement. Mostly, among the village, they were shared between the whole tribe - used more as a name than anything else - but she particularly enjoyed the extra-special nicknames. The type between just two or three trolls. The kind that was almost-but-not-quite an inside the joke, the kind where they'd often have to stifle their laughter at the name.
She wished she had something like that - well, other than with Branch. She and Viva had missed out on the years of sisterly-bonding so...
