“First stop,” the cabbie calls out as they pull up to TK’s townhouse. Golden streetlights shimmer on the pavement, causing the Sparkle Grain to shine. Carlos leans across the seat, getting closer to TK than he has all night.
“Oh wow,” He breathes out, and TK’s happy to find that he can have that kind of impact too. Carlos looks at TK with mischief and mirth in his eyes. “This is you?”
“Yeah,” TK answers, sounding entranced. He’s noticed that Carlos hasn’t moved away, and has to do everything to calm the butterflies fluttering in his stomach. All Carlos does is grin, as if he’s waiting for more.
He thinks about what Angel said; about casual. How he hasn’t felt tense since Carlos’ brown eyes beckoned him in. He cocks an eyebrow and smiles before offering, “You want a tour?”

TK and Carlos (aka Santa Claus) might be even more excited than four-year-old Jonah about their first Christmas as a family of three, but a phone call with Enzo reveals something from the past that causes TK to spiral over what could have been. With Carlos, Owen, Andrea and Jonah all putting their arms around him, TK holds on extra tight to everything he loves.
When they arrived to bring Jonah home, he was waiting for them in the school foyer, standing in the looming shadow of Governess Burgin who would not let him run to them. Carlos, in his snow-pocked coat and wet boots, got down on his knees and told Jonah everything was going to be alright. His brown eyes glittered – and TK saw it. By looking at each other, they could see the future. They could touch it. Warm hugs, tears, lessons, thriving. In that moment – on the floor of a school in snowy Switzerland, there were two fathers in the making and a little boy who would grow up to tell everyone he knew: “My papas – they’re my best friends.” It was all there.

Summary
During their breakup, TK and Carlos pine for each other on Christmas Eve – both remembering a time when it felt like nothing could tear them apart. Can conversations with family help guide them along the path towards reconciliation?

TK grabs the pillow again – again aims perfectly for Carlos’ face. All those Little League games paying off years later with his good aim. But Carlos’ sportsman strength is to wrestle, which TK well knows, and Carlos knows when he’s being goaded. He opts not to throw the pillow back this time, preferring to kneel up on the air mattress and enter a pillow fight duel. TK scrappily defends himself and starts batting away at Carlos – and they giggle and snicker and gasp at each other’s audacity, TK’s knees inching closer and closer to the cliff edge of the bed as he raises his pillow mightily for the final blow. Carlos withstands the impact like the mountain of pure muscle that he is, but TK tips over face-forwards into Carlos’ arms...
