Summary
It's stupid, actually, very melodramatic, but the holidays usually are, so it's no surprise that Eddie only finds out how much his father likes Evan Buckley on Christmas Eve.
Or
It is December 24 when Helena Diaz gives voice to the message that the universe has been working hard to convey.

Summary
“It’s just a storm,” he tried to assure himself, though another snap of bright light shattering the air had his heart rabbiting in his chest, making him think of rain and ladders and things he'd rather forget.
Eddie probably hadn't noticed the storm, sleeping through it instead. He wasn’t defective like Buck. All turned around and backward over some inconsequential thing.
The rain beating on the windows made his skin itch, though, making his mind think of the cold, then of colder things like dead things. He had been dead not that long ago, for three minutes—or, according to Eddie, three minutes and seventeen seconds.
Those extra seconds had seemed painfully important to Eddie, enough to make sure it was known at the table, and Buck hadn’t been sure what to make of that—leaving him to wonder what they meant to him.
--or--
Buck isn't doing as okay as he pretends. The lightning strike, his heart stopping, the coma--it's eating him alive, and he's afraid to reach out for help, but Eddie isn't about to let him suffer this alone, whether he likes it or not, and the passing storm might just be what they need to confess some things they've been afraid to admit

Summary
“Shit, shit, shit,” he cursed as he gripped the wrist of his injured hand, holding it above his heart. The cut wasn’t massive and, by design, not something you could stitch, but that didn’t make it any less messy or risky.
The blood thinners were not his friend right now.
A singular river of red trailed down his forearm to his elbow, then dripped onto the floor, leaving little splatters that his shoes soon smeared against the tile.
“Towel, towel, towel,” he said, spinning on his heel, gaze raking the room frantically. “Fuck—shit, there you are.”
Buck wanted fajitas, so he went to the store for the sweet onions he needed, but he got the wrong kind because he unexpectedly ran into the team, which had nothing to do with why he was crying in his kitchen--obviously, the shitty onions were to blame.
And his day just gets worse from there--as he ends up fileting off a strip of skin, bleeding everywhere, then accidentally hitting his talk-to-text and sending a ramble he never meant anyone to hear to the last person on earth to care: Eddie.

Summary
Buck shifted, and Eddie glanced over to see him wiping his eyes. “Is this where you say it’s not you, it’s me?”
He worked his jaw to the side, biting his lip and looking back at his hands. “You don’t need to believe me, but it’s not that—it’s that…” he trailed off, the ache in the center of his chest making him wonder if this was what a heart attack felt like. “Buck, I know, okay? I know.”
There was a problem. Every time things got steamy, Buck would find a reason to be anywhere else suddenly.
And Eddie had assumed Buck dated men in the past, but now, he worried Buck was forcing just forcing himself to stay, even if he wasn’t as into men as he thought, not wanting to hurt Eddie by breaking up.
So Eddie decides to make things easier on him by gently ending things first.
Buck very much wanted Eddie in all the ways. His brain was just a dick and sending him spiraling at the worst times—and he was too ashamed to let Eddie know.
Because not unlike Humpty Dumpty, some days, Buck felt like he was in pieces on the floor. Though he hadn’t fallen from a wall, someone had broken him instead.
But it's okay—because they've got glue.

Summary
Christopher scrunched his face, then stopped rummaging through his pack to grab something from the ground—something that turned out to be his phone.
“No, nope—who do you think you’re calling?” he asked, trying to reach for it, but Christopher had already hit the button, dialing someone—whom he’d bet anything was his father.
Christopher pulled away, out of reach, phone to his ear, then a moment later saying, “Yeah, I’m okay, dad—yeah, I know—no, but he fell out of a tree—”
“He is fine, though!” Buck yelled, hoping to stop the inevitable freakout from Eddie. “Eddie, do you hear me? I’m fine!”
--or--
Buck takes Chris out for a light hike, somehow ends up falling out of a tree, and Chris patches him up while waiting for his dad to arrive.
