Summary
Tom spun, gun snapping up on instinct.
The thing at the end of the alley was tall with broad shoulders. Wrapped in a ratty blue coat so stiff with old blood it looked black in places. One leg lagged behind the other, knee locking and unlocking in a way that screams wrong, boot leaving a crooked path through the snow as it stumbled forward. Its head lolled slightly, jaw hanging loose like it had forgotten how to close.

Summary
Strictly speaking, Freddy’s growing displeasure for Vanessa, who had quite clearly brandished a knife at Gregory, was against his programming. He was not meant to feel strong negative emotions toward humans, for their safety. Nonetheless, it was there.
Vanessa, who had a knife. Vanessa, who had dressed in a bunny costume. Vanessa, who was the night guard.
Four sets of dull, dark eyes sparked to life, glowing brightly, for the first time in many, many years.

Gregory was still smiling to himself when he stumbled upon it—a new exhibit in one of the museum-style sections. The special event, he guessed, based on the signs and balloons surrounding the miniature stage tucked against the wall. He paused, flashlight flickering over the attraction.
According to one of the informational signs, the four deactivated animatronics standing before him were considered the originals.

Summary
Freddy opened his eyes as night fell, and his shoulders immediately slumped. This was not his first time being free of the virus. They had all had several chances over the last year and a half; never had they succeeded in saving the children from Vanessa.
Whatever or whoever was behind the virus—behind Vanessa’s actions—had outsmarted them bit by bit until they were as helpless as they were under the virus’s effects anyway.
(In which the children are always young and small and scared—until the one who is young and small and has a knife.)
