“They loved him—as much as lesser spirits were capable of love.
So they did the impossible.
They weren’t just forming a suicidal contract.
They were becoming one.”They responded to his plea with a miracle. A divine gift to the powerless and afraid. A guardian angel.
“The spirits had fused. A new entity was born. Something new. Something sacred. Something divine.
And Subaru was its contractor.”Through love, came a miracle. Through a miracle, came life. Through life, new possibilities sprout forth.

After Subaru and his companions dealt with the Wolgarms and the aftermath, life went on undisturbed. The boy and his friends went on to enjoy the peace while it lasted, milking for all that it was worth.
Suddenly, one day, the young butler felt the urge to give his little companion, the precious light who had given him nothing but miracles, a present.
The problem with that is, in the same way she made him complete, he made her feel the same, too.
So what is the perfect present for someone who already has everything they wanted in life?
Well, Subaru is determined to find out.

In his desperation, he remembers a stray comment from Puck. High spirit affinity. Whatever that meant.
Turns out, it meant everything.
He reaches out, and the spirits answer. Not with salvation, but with presence. They don’t care that he’s broken. They stay because he still tries. Because he still loves, even when it hurts.
Many became one. And that one became his. Not because he earned her, but because she chose him.
A spark in the dark, when nothing else was left.
It’s not about glory. It’s about protecting what’s his. Clinging to the ones who chose the weak, desperate, pathetic him.
A path of longing. A path of madness. A path of Vanity.
And maybe this time, he won’t walk it alone
