So, in short Loid is making Yor's birthday cake but then things spiral

Breathe in, breathe out. He sighed, picked up the bowl and dropped its useless content into the sink. The water ran its course, cleaning the sink by creating tiny tears of the goo-like dough, nevermind the salt, that thing was far too dense, would easily pass by as plaster. No use for a three tier cake as he’d planned, or any cake for that matter.
At the very least, the cake of Yor’s birthday should be edible. At the very, very least.
Not that Yor was deserving of the bare minimum only, no, she deserved so much more, (in the back of his mind, Twilight mused that if she asked him to gift her the moon, he’d hang down the moon, the sun and all the stars) but then again, he wasn’t even able of doing a proper strawberry cake."

Because for all the attempts Barbara had made, the reprimands she gave and the scoffs she received, maybe Cass had understood her anyway– that she was afraid to be more than what she is now for fear of stepping into a role Cass didn’t want or need. She plays the recording again. And then again. And then again. And then before she knows she’s falling asleep, memorising the pause in Cass’ voice, the background sounds and the soft clicking of her idly pressing the keys.
