Jo froze, sandwich halfway to her mouth. Zane, the absolute bastard, took an exaggerated bite of her food, his teeth sinking into her bacon with a crisp snap.
"Yeah, Jo-Jo here finally admitted she can't live without me," he said, grinning like the cat who got the cream.

The chronos quantum cosmo mirror hummed with an eerie blue glow, casting shifting reflections across the darkened lab. Current-Zane stood frozen, his breath shallow as he watched the impossible scene unfold before him: his original self, relaxed against a workbench, Jo Lupo settled comfortably in his lap like she was made to fit there.
Current-Zane exhaled sharply, his fingers curling into fists at his sides.

"What is it Fargo?" Flopping back on her bed, Jo closed her eyes and wished that the question would be something easily answered so she could go back to sleep. She had just been having one hell of a dream and she wanted nothing more than to be able to get back to it.
"Were you, uh..." A nervous swallow crackled through the line. "Dreaming about getting handsy with Zane in the sheriff's office?"
Jo launched upright, phone clattering against the wall. "Oh fuck."
