Summary
The sound of Rengoku Kyojurou falling was something that Giyuu would never forget. Even as he fought Upper Rank Three, he was still horribly aware of the body by the train tracks, unmoving and shrouded in a blood stained haori. How could a spirit as strong and bright as the irrepressible flame hashira ever be extinguished?
(Or, Giyuu arrives in time to save the man who has occupied the thoughts of all his days and nights ever since their first mission together two years prior. And although the road to recovery won't be easy for Kyojurou, at least he won't be alone.)

It means “want to go out to eat? just the two of us,” and every time Rengoku asks, Tomioka glances at him with those gorgeous blue eyes and nods his head. This time, however, Giyuu asks Kyojuro.
“Salmon with daikon?”
He whispers, just between the two of them. A shared thought, a warm touch. Rengoku wants to smile, take his hand and lead him away from the Ubuyashiki mansion, but he doesn’t let the song that plays from his heart cloud his thoughts or play too deafeningly in his ears. He doesn’t want to lose what he has with Tomioka just because of the way that he feels.

What he couldn’t take was this mess. Tears and regret and anxiety and anticipation and god, he couldn’t breathe. Shinazugawa had finally found one of his many, many cracks, and was tearing him open like there’d be anything but hollowness inside.
“Shinazugawa, please,” Giyuu begs, soft and desperate. He wouldn’t be able to tell you what he was asking for. His eyes had scrunched shut, head tilted back against the charred ruins behind him. His throat worked around a swallow, a curtain of inky hair parting around his face. Bleeding emotions he would've rather left sunken under static seas.
Giyuu cries after a bad mission, and Shinazugawa is there to see it.
