“Okay.” Steve buries his head in his arms face down on the coffee table in his basement. “Okay. A major lab incident I can get behind. Shit, the kid going missing I can understand. But what the hell do you mean there are monsters now?!”
“He didn’t say monsters,” Paperboy rolls his eyes, which looks really funny since he is doing a headstand against the wall. “Don’t be dramatic, Finney.”
“Griffin said the words ‘slimy tentacle vines of unimaginable cosmic horrors’” Steve deadpans, still face down.
“That doesn’t immediately mean monster.”

Steve wants to say he gets it, but he doesn’t think that’s the gentlest way to start this. I get it, Kid. He only fed me eggs. I couldn’t look at them for months. At least he was fed at all. He doesn’t know a thing about what Will survived, just the bits and pieces that float around town like the rumors that usually concern the exponentially more menial. Someone’s grandma died. Some senior turned up pregnant.
Steve inhales, sharply. Thinks about who he was before and after Denver. Thinks about who everyone expected him to be. His mouth opens before he can consider if he wants to stop it. “You know, my name’s not really Steve.”

Robin and Steve had been watching, mildly amused with the antics. Robin was comfortable, manspreading as she mumbled a couple jokes to Steve while the kids left. Weirdly however, Steve had felt on edge almost the entire time, still feeling the same. The room felt emptier, and he had felt oddly claustrophobic. The paint on the walls were chipping, almost familiar. Then a dog had barked outside, Samson.

Summary
When a ghost bested another in battle, they earned a tattoo in glowing, ghostly ink, representative of their victory. There’s no rhyme or reason to where they appear, only that they will eventually. The thing was, Danny didn’t know this. His parents never got close enough to a ghost that won fights to have any data on it, and since he never seemed to get any he figured it was just a fashion statement.
