Summary
Szeth walked carefully to Kaladin's grave. He needed the practice; the recovery from his injuries—the loss of his arm chief among them—was a long process, and he still had not regained his balance. Nightblood did not help, the truly enormous blade a heavy weight to carry. But Szeth did not have enough friends to leave one behind.

Summary
Odium's forces have a plan to deal with windrunners on the battlefield, even without support from the Heavenly Ones. Kaladin finds this out painfully.
---
The last Singer’s legs wobbled, and fearspren roiled at his feet. Too scared to run. Too scared to fight. That had never been Kaladin’s problem. The first time he had ever frozen, he had been scared by his own lack of fear. Irony, of a kind.
The Singer slashed his spear up and into Kaladin’s calf in panic. It stuck, and Kaladin ripped it from the Singer's hands as he fell, hitting his head on the rough ground below. Blood dripped from his hair onto his face. He crawled to the Singer, dropping his knife. He didn’t need it. He was the weapon. Kaladin Stormblessed.
With one hand, he yanked the Singer down to join him on the ground. With the other, he pulled the spear from his leg, flipped it around, and stabbed the Singer through the gemheart.

Summary
Dalinar had never really considered the civilians who had died to reforge Alethkar, not as people. As statistics, yes: here was the blood on his hands, here were the lives he had ruined.
He hadn’t been prepared for the victims to talk back.

Summary
I don’t like the darkness, Nightblood said.
“You mean darkness like now?” Vasher asked.
No. In the closet.
“You can’t even see.”
A person knows when they’re in darkness, Nightblood said. Even when they can’t see.
