One day, El walks into the bookstore and notices a familiar name on the cover of a bestselling fantasy novel. "The Storyteller and the Mage" it was called. And this version had the happily ever after they both had wanted.
Maybe it was still possible. Maybe Mike could write the ending after all. El just did not know how possible it was.

Summary
After a desperate fight against Vecna, Eleven and Mike find themselves no longer in Hawkins or at the end of the world. Not only that, but it's not 1987, it's 1973, they're in New York, Hawkins doesn't exist, and superheroes that they only knew in comics are real people when they come across a seemingly abandoned Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.
They realize that they are not the only ones wandering through time, as they get involved in a fight to save the future of the X-Men while trying to find their way back home to save their friends from Vecna's forces.
