Sunshine and Gunpowder by E. B. Grant became the LAFD’s most talked about topic for a month, and Eddie found himself buying the damn book to see what all the fuss was about.
“It’s so accurate, this guy has to be a firefighter!” Someone had said and that blew up like crazy, and suddenly, there were subreddits dedicated to discovering the identity of the author. Eddie had read a lot of good books in his time, but a book about a firefighter that was actually written well? Not something he ever expected to see. Apparently it was a gay romance novel about a firefighter and a paramedic, and Eddie had to admit, the storyline sounded great. A firefighter and a detective team up to find a criminal who is killing firefighters. Who wouldn’t want to read that! It sounded amazing.
“It sounds crap,” Chim said around a mouthful of sandwich.

Once the bedroom door was closed behind her, Athena sighed and hurried up the stairs. Whoever it was kept pressing the bell over and over again. “Alright, alright, I’m coming,” she muttered. Though still half asleep, she was aware enough to keep the door on the bolt just in case the person behind was unfavourable, but when she turned the handle and let it open a crack, her eyes widened. She slammed the door shut, undid the bolt and wrenched it open wide.
“Buck?” she gasped.
“... I need help.” Buck said.
