Steve stares down into big blue eyes looking up at him. Familiar, yet the boy he has his arms wrapped tight around is too small. Too tiny to be the fifteen-year-old beta he swears he was yanking through the gate.
But the gaping teeth, unruly curls, and the now oversized clothes are unmistakable.
“Henderson?” Steve questioned in disbelief. The teeny pup, possibly seven or eight, simply tilts his head and his small hands curl into Steve’s polo. His eyes begin to water, his lower lip quivering.
And immediately little Dustin begins crying.

Summary
The first time he’d had Eddie over – for dinner and drinks and lazy grinding in front of the towering Harrington fireplace – he’d put Fallen Angel on in the background.
“Romantic,” Eddie had snorted teasingly before lowering himself on top of Steve, before turning Steve’s body into heat and desire in a way that always stopped him from thinking too hard about anything, really.
And maybe Eddie had been teasing, he thought later as Eddie slept, wrapped up in Steve’s own naked body. Maybe it had been sarcasm. No, it probably was, but he did think there was something romantic about the song, about loving someone and choosing to be there for them, to wait.
He didn’t realize at the time that it was the last time he would hold his own fallen angel in his arms.

It’s been months that they’ve been away. Months since they’ve stepped through the front door into the boring entryway, through the boring hallway, into the boring kitchen. With no greeting, no Hi, Steve, how’ve you been? No We missed you, how are your friends? What happened with the earthquakes and the serial killer? Are you okay?
Nothing.
A comment about the dirt on Steve’s car, and the dull floor tiles, and Steve’s future career. He wonders if they even know what color his eyes are.

The first thing Tommy registered was that the guy was tall. And probably very strong as well.
The second thing Tommy noticed was the man’s pink hair, which made the blond frown in slight surprise, because who on earth got the time to dye their hair pink in the middle of the apocalypse?
Then Tommy took in the big ass rifle pointed at him.
“Who are you?” the man’s voice was low and threatening. His eyes were cold and calculating, narrowed in suspicion.

Steve clamps his mouth shut and grips the wooden bannister in his hand until his knuckles turn white and he’s sure his nails will be embedded in the wood.
“Come here,” he says, praying, willing Billy to just move, to tell him its all just a joke and come walking forwards and sweep him up in his arms and take him upstairs to bed.
He watches Billy’s jaw twitch as he grinds his teeth and his heart is seriously going to go into cardiac arrest or something.
“Baby, please,” his voice is nothing more than a whisper at this point and he nearly cries when he sees Billy’s eyes soften and his shoulders slump slightly, “please, just, come here.”
Billy looks at him for a long time, a stampede of emotions storming through his eyes.
