You tilt your head, pretending to not understand. He helplessly points at his shirt and slacks, all neatly ironed and fixed to suit his scrawny constitution, and at the squeaky clean plates that have been full just a minute ago. The cooks have been adding meat to his porridges, mostly tender, light poultry.
You peer into his verdant eyes, and they are still hollow but not entirely emotionless. There is a blend of apprehension and curiosity, all dusted with a layer of cynicism.
It’s too soon, you think. So you shrug.
