   Summary

   Life was supposed to go back to normal after Starcourt. It was supposed to be over the moment El closed the Gate, and Will’s possession ended, yet a year later, neither of them could be struggling more.

   Everything’s changed, to say the least: the new house, the engagement, the new family that said they were siblings. Happy moments felt tainted. The realization of reality landed like a punch to the gut, allowing a wave of ache and sadness to wash over, and genuine happiness wasn’t the same anymore. A smile would be just a facade.

   While Will struggles with unrequited love he never understood, a deadbeat father he couldn’t let go of, and a terrifying reality he couldn’t face, El’s mental health finds her trapped inside the torment of a lab she never truly escaped, a family terrified of failing her, and the shattering moment she discovers the one person she trusted most is in love with the boy she’s terrified of losing.
