    After the events of Revenge of the Fallen, without something to focus on, Sam finds himself overcome and overwhelmed by the All-Spark. The voices and the symbols are too much for his human mind to handle. The All-Spark killed Megatron, and it's slowly killing him. Between seizures and blackouts, Sam is losing his mind. He's losing himself to the all of the All-Spark. He falls away when the voices take over and when he comes too, a new half-crazed project is laid out before him, and he doesn't remember any of it. Mikaela tries to help by lending her mechanical skills to said projects laying around the NEST base and keeping Sam as on track as he can be.
    Sam realizes, almost immediately, that he's only ever himself when he's with Optimus Prime, due to the Autobot carrying the Matrix of Leadership, the ancient artifact gifted to Sam by the Primes of old. The two spend as much time together as they can. Bumblebee, too terrified of losing Sam again, is always following him, and only ever leaves if he's sure Sam is safe.
    ...
    Then comes the Ark, Sentinel Prime, and murder. And most of NEST thinks Sam is nuts, even though he's not.
