“How did you become the Sandpiper?” he asks instead. How did I not know?
Jaskier considers his answer. He's changed. He’s thinner and yet broader, muscled, a hunger-pang look replacing the former softness of his face. There’s a new scar running through his right eyebrow. His hair has grown to shoulder-length, and his stubble doesn’t hide the new lines around his mouth.
“A lot can happen in six years, Geralt,” Jaskier says eventually. “Some people become warlords. Some do… other things.”

Six years after the dragon hunt, Geralt conquers Redania. But to start the work of rebuilding a kingdom worn down by hatred and oppression, he needs to work with the mysterious Sandpiper and his resistance network.

“I’m in love with you,” Fingon says one morning in September.
Maedhros is perched on the couch’s armrest, bent down, struggling to tie his laces. He looks up at Fingon as the words sink in. His unbound hair makes a curtain in front of his eyes, and he can only see parts of him, the hand on his shoulder bag, the golden beads in his perfectly braided hair, his hesitant, expectant smile.
His face falls the longer Maedhros takes to answer. They’re running late for the meeting, and there’s a lead weight in Maedhros’s gut that pulls painfully as words fail to form on his lips. I’m in love with you too, the words are right there, but it’s like someone has sucked all the sound out of him.

Anairë finds her late one day in her workshop, surrounded by slabs of stone larger than her. Nerdanel is hammering forcefully at one of them, the barest hints of an elven shape already taking form in the marble. Bitter, stinging tears run down her cheeks and into her collar, and her arms ache with exhaustion.
The body is only barely sketched, but the face is already chiselled, smooth curves and angular cheekbones.
Fëanáro emerges out of the marble, looking like he’s about to take life.
(Across the sea, her sons lead a funeral.)

“Take it to Eärendil,” he repeats. “Sail to Valinor. Do what we could not.”

Galadriel’s heart stops, but he moves again. There was an equestrian statue of Finrod in Mithlond. Red-veined marble, not gold, but it had shined in the sun too, in the middle of the harbour square.
One of the many reasons why she didn’t enjoy the city.
