Summary
It was simply an off-hand comment, an unimportant debate between strength versus experience. Ashur hadn't meant for it to lead to a challenge, nor the bet he made as a result. Yet here he is, Tarquin's hand grasped firmly in his as he tries to leverage it down toward the table. It becomes all he can do to concentrate on the match as Tarquin coaches him, guiding him in his movements. He hadn't expected to be so affected by Tarquin's words, by this tone of voice, but soon he finds all he wants is to hear it again.

Smooth and Soft, Unworked and Uncalloused by Easterngate

Summary
Tarquin can tell by his uncalloused hand he never knew long days of physical labor, never chopped logs for fire, did not have the rough ridges on his fingers or palm from the rub of a sword or bow string, repeated over and over thousands of times on his journey from boyhood to man. His hands are used to softer things, of silk and velvet and satin. Unworked and unblemished. It's almost startling.
The Viper lets go and reaches down for his coat and gloves and Tarquin wonders at the loss. His hand sits there in the air, just a moment too long, dazed at the loss of him and the implications of his delicate skin, before lowering it slowly back to his side.

Summary
He pressed nose and mouth against Ashur's head, uncaring about the bitter and foreign taste of blight in his mouth. He spit it back out onto the floor, but he could not stop himself in the moment from touching lips to skin, risk be damned. Ashur was here, in these last moments with him, and Tarquin would give him everything.

Summary
"The blight is a nasty thing," Dorian continued, a hollowness to his voice. His eyes were distant, and Tarquin wondered if he were truly talking to him, if he even remembered his presence. "Those who survive the first couple days find themselves wasting away. It becomes a slow thing, but no less painful to watch. Eats at the body, consumes it, until they become a shell of who the once were."

Summary
A pang of jealousy flared in Rook's stomach at the mention of the Shadow Dragons, irrational but no less present. They liked liked the Shadow Dragons, Maevaris and Dorian and Tarquin and the Viper, and they were glad Taash was figuring things out, maybe making friends in the process. Why did it feel like such a big deal then, that Taash was talking to them? Talking with Maevaris and Tarquin about things instead of them?

Summary
Her mind was a muddle of feelings and confusion as if it had been replaced by runoff from the Thames. It could not be said they parted on good terms. Crowley remembered her mocking echo clearly. She had wanted to push him in with the ducks for heaven's sake. What was the angel playing at acting almost sweet to her now?
"You've just been sleeping? Since-" Aziraphale cut off but they both knew what he was referring to. She shrugged noncommittally. Aziraphale pursed his lips. "Well. You're going to love this. Bit much for me at times, all told, but I do enjoy it.

Aziraphale and Crowley meet for the first time since their argument in the 1860's.

Summary
Anthony had never hated any day more than his birthday. He was also born on the twelfth, though he thought of the day less holy and more cursed. He would rip the whole month off the calendar if only it would erase the day. No matter how old he got it felt like a sharp needle, a painful reminder of his past and all that was expected of him. Begrudgingly, though, he had to admit the day had one thing going for it.
Anthony's never really liked birthdays. Aziraphale's never really had one.
