Baelon Targaryen was a tiny, bloodied newborn when Rhaenyra saw him for the first time. It was a heartbreaking moment. She was four-and-ten at the time, a child still, holding her mother’s hand while Aemma fought against the fates on the birthing bed. She wasn’t expecting to see all that blood, all that gore, the awful wailing, the desperation onto which her baby brother was holding life. She wasn’t expecting to, at the end of that day, to have a brother, but not a mother.
When she looked at the tiny newborn, with his white wisp of hair, she cried. All of that for him? Maester Mellos said he wouldn’t even live to see another day, and King Viserys despaired on his throne, crying over his son and the loss of his wife. Rhaenyra couldn’t even do the same. She fell to her knees and prayed, even though she wasn’t sure she believed.
Please, Fourteen, don’t let him go. Don’t let it all be for nothing. Let it be all for him.
