   Summary

   Kanae is fresh from her honeymoon and already feeling ill when she writes Shinobu, asking her sister to cross the forest to see her. If it were anyone else, Shinobu would refuse; only fools enter the woods during winter. But Kanae isn’t anyone else, and she loves her too much to say no. So she dons a red cloak that’s really not her taste, fills a basket with food and medicine, and steps out into the snow.

   Yet the woods aren’t as empty as they seem, and it’s not just the wind howling in her ears.
