Summary
They stood side-by-side at the stainless steel counter, looking at their respective cups. Then, as if guided by the same unseen thread, they each slowly raised their ice cream, holding it up next to the other’s face.
Mydei ’s tall, spiky swirl stood proudly next to Phainon’s grinning face, mirroring the energetic cowlick Phainon always sported.
Phainon ’s lower, sagging swirl sat beside Mydei’s head, a perfect replica of his own tiny, floppy tufts of hair.
A laugh burst out of Phainon first, bright and unrestrained, the nervous tension shattering into pure, delighted joy. Mydei’s shoulders shook, a quiet, deep chuckle escaping him, a rare sound that transformed his usually stern, composed features into something warm and breathtaking. For a moment, they just laughed, the sound echoing joyfully in the empty, wrecked cafe, all the day’s tension, all the years of unspoken longing, melting away like the ice cream in their hands.

“You can talk to me, Phainon.” Mydei said, much softer than his normal rough tone. Phainon’s eyes widened softly, Mydei had called him his name. He rarely ever did that, it sent a soft warmth down Phainon’s entire self.
“Lady Aglaea recently asked me about any women in my life.” Phainon asked, biting the insides of his cheeks softly. “I have women in my life, but no one I would look at romantically.” Phainon explained further, putting his hands over his face in exhaust. He had gotten only 3 hours of sleep from staying up thinking about this.
Mydei thought of Phainon’s words, he agreed with the sentiment very deeply. He was raised in Kremnos, Kremnos was quite open for people of same sex relations, and Mydei knew this. It made Mydei think of a question. “What about men?”
Phainon’s eyes widened softly at the question. Phainon thought about it, what about men? Phainon had only thought of one man at the question; Mydei. Phainon adored Mydei, his fighting, his way with words, and his handsome face. Phainon had even more to think about now. Not a woman, but a man, and not just any man, Mydei. “Deliverer?”
