It was a warm day on the mountain, perfect for a chance encounter between Noah, a local snowboarder looking for a good time, and Andres, a visitor from out of town packing some serious hardware. It had been two months since Mat last set eyes on the creature, when Noal had interrupted its second attempt to kill him in an Ebou Dar alley, and the gholam still dogged his footsteps. It was his constant shadow – a prickle at the back of his neck. But now, Mat intended to use those orders to his advantage.

After being followed by the gholam all the way from Ebou Dar, Mat decides to deal with the creature once and for all. But he will find that Shadowspawn, like people, are more complicated than they seem when the attempt to kill it doesn't go as planned.
Soon his fate becomes entangled with not just the gholam so fixated on him, but also Moridin – one of the few people still living who understands just how dangerous a creature with free will can be.
